Position Summary

Provides comprehensive patient care during office visits, including intake, test results, screenings, labs, medication administration, and closing care gaps, while delivering excellent customer service focused on patient-centered care.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Accurately perform point-of-care tests (urine dipstick, blood glucose, etc.) and clinical intake (vital signs, medical history, surgical and social history, medication verification).
  • Prepare and administer medications per provider orders, following the 6 Rights of medication administration, including documentation and coding. Controlled substances, insulin, and allergy doses require verification by LPN, RN, or provider.
  • Assist with stocking supplies, ordering equipment, and maintaining medical supplies in coordination with the site manager.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and gather pre-visit documentation, including notes, test results, and imaging.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and specimen collection as directed by the provider.
  • Communicate lab and diagnostic results to patients, and report abnormal findings to the physician, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Follow safety protocols, infection control procedures, and maintain a clean environment, adhering to OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Manage patient flow, coordinate with physicians based on urgency and patient load, and support multiple providers if needed.
  • Support other departmental functions such as patient registration, payment collection, checkout, and scheduling.
  • Respond to internal and external calls, document interactions in EMR, and act as liaison between support services and clinical divisions.
  • Provide follow-up and education to patients, respecting individual needs, cultures, and preferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical Diploma in Medical Assisting.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification (CMA) in Florida.
  • American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification prior to start and maintained.
  • Must pass colorblind testing for point-of-care tests requiring color change.
  • Strong customer service skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Keyboarding skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, climb, and crouch frequently.
  • May lift or move objects up to 50 pounds and assist with patient or equipment movement up to 90% of shifts.
  • Work in various environments, including enclosed spaces, with exposure to biohazards following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Good visual and hand-eye coordination, and effective communication skills.
  • Travel within and outside the county with a personal vehicle may be required.
