THE POSITION

Apply for this Labor Law Investigator position with the Department of Labor and Industry, Bureau of Labor Law Compliance, Philadelphia Regional Office to help monitor and enforce Pennsylvania's labor laws with our team!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will conduct investigations to ensure compliance with state labor laws. As part of this role, you will educate employers, organizations, and employees of the requirements to effectively protect workers' rights and build working relationships across the Commonwealth. Your responsibilities will involve receiving and screening complaints, requesting and reviewing documentation and physical evidence, conducting interviews in person and over the phone, and inspecting businesses or projects. You will also coordinate with your supervisor concerning the status of each investigation, prepare verbal and written case narratives, and maintain timely and detailed work notes of each case's progress. As an Investigator, the decisions you make in collaboration with your supervisor will determine the course of each investigation including when to have administrative conferences, visit an establishment, or recommend a case be taken to court. You will participate in court proceedings and testify as an expert witness. Teamwork and effective communication skills are essential for effectively executing the responsibilities of this role. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. This position is home headquartered. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor's degree; or Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a field related to investigative or construction and trades work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Additional Requirements: This position requires you to possess and maintain federally compliant identification such as a U.S. Passport, REAL ID, or Military ID. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment. You must live in or be willing to move to the geographic region the Philadelphia District Office covers by date of hire. Expenses will not be paid. Counties include Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia. You must demonstrate ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor and Industry. You must demonstrate ability to work with professionalism, discretion and good work ethic. You must have solid written and verbal communication skills. You must show initiative and problem solving skills. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
