Overview Join to apply for the Director of Package Engineering role at Leidos Position Summary Reporting to the Global Head and Vice President of Packaging Center of Expertise (COE), the Director, Package Engineering is responsible for directing and overseeing packaging development for primarily NA, but intermittent global initiatives. Development includes front end brainstorming, supplier selection & qualification, material development, operations equipment selection, equipment validation, and a thought leader to work cross-functionally on opportunities and issues. This role will develop and manage subordinate engineers and provide cost savings and innovation opportunities. Critical to this role is to work influentially and collaboratively with a cross-functional team across multiple levels of management (Business lead, Vice president, through individual contributors) and global regions. An in-depth knowledge of material sustainability is required. This hands-on role will require a broad network of suppliers and technologies. This leader will work closely with innovation and site teams to direct and foster package innovation to proactively cultivate and drive development of new incremental growth platforms and ideas within platforms which satisfy new need states, consumers, and usage occasions. Position Responsibilities Setting strategic focus and direction for futures state packaging opportunities and linkage into innovation pipeline. Work influentially and collaboratively with cross-functional team across multiple levels of management to define packaging strategic direction. Work to remove barriers and elevate issues as needed to drive business agenda Proactively challenge technical assumptions and current business processes to drive new package innovation. Ensure that packaging COE team utilizes scientific and engineering understanding to resolve issues and/or implement, direct and deploy packaging project activity to deliver against innovation development and commercialization agenda. Drive and direct key packaging supplier relationships on innovation opportunities. Oversee development of outside vendors and manufacturing facilities to enable innovation program success and implementation of sustainability objectives. Proactively seek out and understand packaging technologies that may have application to business Develop and drive productivity improvement opportunities for packaging and innovation function. Understand relationship between package, product and process. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Package Engineering or related field is required. Ten (10) + years of experience in packaging development and commercialization in CPG or product/package industry is required. Demonstrated successful leadership of technical staff Strong leadership, influencing, people management and collaboration skills are required. Must have a depth of technical expertise on multiple packaging materials or packaging/processing systems. Ability to handle multiple moderate to high-risk projects concurrently using sound technical methodology with flawless execution is required. Ability to understand the cost and performance drivers of packaging materials is required. Understand material and format alternatives for a given application is required. Ability to function independently is required. Ability and willingness to travel up to 40% of the time is required. Compensation and Benefits New Hire Base Salary Range is 120 -180k. Bonus: Eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
