Director of Events & Catering

Ventura, CA (Relocation Offered)

Salary: $115,000 – $125,000 base + up to 20% quarterly bonus

About the Role

A premier beachfront hotel in Ventura, CA is seeking a Director of Events & Catering to lead its catering and event sales operations. This is a key leadership role for a results-driven professional with full-service hotel experience and a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences. The ideal candidate is proactive, relationship-oriented, and ready to take full ownership of a high-performing department.

Key Responsibilities

• Cultivate new event and catering business through cold calling, networking, referrals, and industry outreach.
• Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients to ensure repeat business and client satisfaction.
• Respond to inquiries from the website and online channels; guide clients from lead to close.
• Conduct on-site tours and presentations for prospective event clients.
• Negotiate, draft, and execute catering contracts using systems such as CI/TY, Sertifi, and Social Tables.
• Partner with internal hotel departments to ensure seamless event execution.
• Develop and implement action plans to meet or exceed monthly and annual sales goals.
• Monitor department KPIs, including revenue growth, conversion rates, customer retention, and upsell performance.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of catering sales experience in a full-service hotel (required)
• Strong background in negotiating and closing hotel event contracts
• Tech proficiency with Microsoft Office, CI/TY, Sertifi, and Social Tables
• Ability to manage multiple events and responsibilities with poise and efficiency
• Self-starter with excellent follow-through and organizational skills
• Professional communication and customer service skills
