Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM

Job Overview:
This position is responsible for performing skilled administrative and clerical work for the Public Utilities Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
  • Supports all divisions within the Public Utilities department, may work in different locations as needed.
  • Collects material from different sources to provide cohesive answers to public inquiries.
  • Assists plant supervisors and superintendents with bidding requirements and procedures.
  • Submits requisitions, purchase orders, project invoices, budget reports and tracking, and check requests.
  • Maintains tap application data, including interfacing with Iredell County online process.
  • Monitors departmental payroll, personnel files, records, and departmental filing system.
  • Assists with mail and answers correspondence as assigned.
  • Assists with ordering and receiving materials and supplies for the department.
  • Posts reports to website as directed, posts a wide assortment of information to records.
  • Prepares, composes, and types a variety of documents, technical and statistical reports, data for publication, and other material where knowledge of formatting and presentation is necessary.
  • Explains departmental and City policies and procedures to employees and the public.
  • Assists with HR forms as requested.
  • Coordinates and facilitates special projects requiring analytical review of various data and materials, and prepares reports based on collected data.
  • Operates a variety of office equipment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of clerical experience using Microsoft Office.
Other Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license, or any valid driver's license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver's license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.

Job Related Physical Requirements
This position involves light work requiring the exertion of 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and to convey detailed or important instructions to others; hearing is required to respond to spoken words, to receive and understand information, and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
