Cook Children’s Health Care System is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) ED - Emergency Department for a nursing job in Prosper, Texas.

Summary:

The Spanish Interpreter will provide patients, families, visitors, and staff access to employees who accurately interpret via face-to-face encounters during designated hours. Spanish Interpreters are bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish with the ability to interpret health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients/patients' families and Medical Center health care providers. Will act as a language liaison between the patient, family, and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitates acquisition of Interpreter services for non-Spanish languages (via OPI/over the phone, VRI/video remote interpreter and/or contract services).

Hours: ** 2nd shift 5:30pm - 2:00am ** Will require 4-6 weeks of in-person training at Fort Worth Medical Center.


Required Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • 1-2 years of experience working in a healthcare setting.

  • Current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.

  • Previous interpretation/translation experience (preferred).

  • Ability to precisely and accurately translate critical medical information from English to the patient's native language.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.

  • Excellent communication and active listening skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Ability to interact and communicate with people in-person and over the telephone, often in stressful situations.

Required Certification & Testing:

  • Selected applicants must meet Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Children's Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language, reading, and writing tests prior to employment.

  • All selected applicants are tested prior to an offer being made to determine their Spanish proficiency level, and must test at a proficient level to qualify. Testing will be administered by a contracted testing service. Spanish proficiency levels are verified as part of the employee's annual review.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers is required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained.

**There is required travel time to our Fort Worth campus for orientation, pre-employment, training, and etc. **
