Job Title: Packaging Engineer

Location: Hybrid – Greenwood Village, CO

Pay Rate: $60-$67/hour

Contract Type: Rolling contract, funded through end of 2026 (potential extension through 2029)

Start Date: September 2025

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Packaging Engineer to support the redesign and optimization of self-installation kits for internet and Wi-Fi services. This role will focus on improving the unboxing experience, reducing material costs, and supporting automation initiatives across multiple packaging phases. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with packaging design, testing, and vendor collaboration, and will play a key role in transitioning packaging operations to fully onshore and automatable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead packaging design and development for self-install kits, focusing on size reduction, cost savings, and improved customer experience.
• Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure packaging is feasible for manual and automated assembly.
• Support a multi-phase automation roadmap:
• Phase 1 : Optimize for manual assembly.
• Phases 2 & 3 : Transition to automated box-building and pack-out systems.
• Conduct and interpret results from packaging tests (e.g., ISTA, FedEx, drop, vibration, compression).
• Work closely with packaging suppliers to source raw materials and ensure 100% onshore production.
• Continuously iterate packaging designs to align with automation capabilities and environmental goals.
• Analyze materials and structural performance to reduce footprint and improve durability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, quality engineers, and product stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in packaging engineering , ideally in consumer electronics, e-commerce, or logistics.
• Strong knowledge of ISTA and FedEx testing protocols and standards.
• Experience with corrugated packaging , freight and pallet design , and self-shipper packaging .
• Familiarity with packaging automation and machinery (e.g., box folders, vision systems).
• Hands-on experience with ISTA testing , FedEx simulation , and shipping durability validation .
• Proficiency in packaging design software; preference for ArtiosCAD 3D (moving away from SolidWorks).
• Experience working with vendors on both the product and supply side.
• Strong understanding of environmental impact and sustainability in packaging design.
