The Engineering Director – Data Center Commissioning will provide strategic leadership to Engineering Managers and Senior Commissioning Engineers. This role is accountable for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of data center commissioning projects, ensuring world-class quality, client satisfaction, and operational excellence. In addition, the Engineering Director will support the development and execution of annual operating plans that drive revenue, optimize resources, support process improvements, and achieve other strategic targets tied to the growth of commissioning services within data center commissioning projects teams.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the data center commissioning teams delivering data center projects, ensuring resources are effectively allocated and fully utilized.
  • Guide Senior Commissioning Engineers on new business pursuits and the execution of complex, mission-critical data center projects.
  • Develop strategies to expand and strengthen the data center commissioning practice within the region.
  • Ensure consistent quality control and technical standards for all commissioning deliverables to achieve the highest level of client confidence.
  • Oversee monthly and quarterly financial performance, including project profitability and forecasting for data center commissioning services.
  • Lead the continued growth, mentoring, and technical development of commissioning staff with a focus on data center expertise.
  • Provide executive-level technical oversight and direction for large-scale, high-complexity data center commissioning projects.
  • Lead proposal development and review for data center commissioning opportunities, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with client requirements.
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships, serving as a trusted partner on strategic data center projects.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives and special projects related to data center commissioning strategy, innovation, and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of commissioning or engineering experience, with 8+ years in a management role within the data center industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully delivering large-scale data center commissioning projects.
  • Strong client relationship management skills specific to mission-critical facilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and grow technical commissioning staff.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills; ability to manage budgets and project profitability.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks related to commissioning (lifting up to 30 pounds, climbing ladders, and equipment inspections).
  • Willingness to travel across the US to support data center projects and clients.
