Job Description
Documentation Specialist Location- Suitland, MD Clearance- Public Trust Documentation Specialist to support technical and operational teams at the Department of Commerce. This role is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining high-quality documentation that aligns with federal standards and supports mission-critical systems and workflows. The ideal candidate excels at translating complex information into clear, accessible formats for diverse audiences.
Responsibilities - Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, user guides, and process manuals
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and program managers to gather source material and validate content
- Ensure documentation complies with federal standards for clarity, accessibility (Section 508), and security
- Organize and manage document repositories, version control, and metadata tagging
- Support proposal development, training materials, and internal communications as needed
- Edit and format documents for consistency, readability, and professional presentation
- Conduct periodic reviews and updates to ensure documentation reflects current systems and practices
- Assist with knowledge management initiatives and document lifecycle governance
Required Qualifications - 4+ years of experience in technical writing, documentation, or related roles
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint)
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Skills - Experience supporting federal agencies or working within government contracting environments
- Familiarity with IT systems, cloud technologies, or software development lifecycles
- Knowledge of Section 508 compliance and plain language standards
- Background in proposal writing or technical publications
This program requires US Citizenship Position Details: - Pay Rate / Range: $35-$45/hr
