General Definition of Work

Performs work responsible for preventing collisions between aircraft by organizing and expediting the flow of air traffic for the City of Cape Girardeau.

Essential Functions

•Provides for the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic.

•Originates, delivers and relays clearances authorizing the movement of aircraft, vehicles and personnel on the airport; coordinates with other air traffic control agencies to ensure the safe movement of aircraft; relays all movement information of aircraft.

•Issues air traffic advisories to alert pilot to traffic and obstacles.

•Contacts local law enforcement and airport security in the event of an emergency.

•Participates in supplemental training.

•Provides weather updates and hourly reports; monitors ASOS.

•Monitors all electronic aids to navigations, including runway lighting, taxiway lighting, approach lighting, wind instruments, clocks, altimeters, ASOS monitors and the dictaphone panel.

•Performs the duties of the Controller in Charge (CIC).

•Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

•Thorough knowledge of FAA Handbook 7110.65

•Must possess a previous facility rating.

•Possess Air Traffic Control (CTO) Certificate.

•Possess METAR Certification.

•Possess FAA Class II Medical Certification.

Salary per hour $35.51, plus a generous benefit package.

• Bi-weekly pay periods.
• Twelve paid holidays per year.
• 96 hours of vacation - accrued throughout the year.
• 96 hours of sick leave - accrued throughout the year.
• 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
• City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance - Employee only.
• City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
• Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee's expense.
• Optional vision insurance purchased at employee's expense.
• Voluntary deferred compensation plan - not matched by the City.

• Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $49.62 hourly/$103,219 yearly.

Before final appointment, successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a drug test, background investigation and pre-employment physical.
